Charles O. Spear, 74, a resident of Greater Portland 62 years, died suddenly Sunday in his home on Spurwink Avenue, Cape Elizabeth, after a heart attack.
He was born in Green Bay, Wis., July 4,1871, and came to Portland at the age of 12. He was employed as a clerk and carrier at the Portland Post Office for many years until his retirement in 1936. In his younger days he was well known in baseball and roller polo circles.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Alice M. Brackett Spear; a daughter Mrs. Ruth
Spear Hale; a son, Charles O. Spear, Jr.; two brothers, Robert J. Spear and George T. Spear; a sister, Mrs. Lulu Buckingham; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of South Portland.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, South Portland.
The children of Charles Orlo-7 Spear and Alice M. Brackett were:
1. Ruth-8 Spear married a man named Hale,
2. Charles Orlo Spear, Jr. was born in 1894; married Elizabeth Mansfield.
