Richard Hale was born Feb 28, 1717 in Newbury, Massachusetts, to Samuel Hale and Apphia (Moody) Hale. Richard moved to Coventry, Connecticut, where he married Elizabeth Strong. They settled on a farm there and raised their family. Deacon Hale was a strong supporter of the fight for independence and provided clothing and shelter for Continental Army soldiers. Many of his sons served in the Revolution, incl. Nathan Hale.
