Leonard's father James Haskins was born in 1784 in NH to Jonathan Haskins (a foundry operator born in Bristol, England) and his first wife Lucy. James died in 1850. James Haskins and Lucy Hart were married about 1816. Lucy Hart was born in 1790 in NH. Lucy died in 1841 in Huntington,VT. Lucy was buried in Hanksville Cemetery, Huntington, VT. James Haskins and Lucy Hart had the following children, including Leonard:
i. Samuel H. Haskins, born on March 24, 1817; married Philena Swinyer; died on May 15, 1898,
Huntington, VT.
ii. Willard Haskins was born on June 13, 1820. He died on March 3, 1896.
iii. Leonard Haskins, born on March 16, 1825, Huntington, VT; married Louisa E. Grace, on April 28,
1844, Starksboro, Addison, VT; died on June 19, 1878.

James Haskins and Mary Brazier were married in 1848. Mary Brazier was born. Mary is the mother of Louisa Eliza Grace, Leonard's wife.

James Haskins, a veteran of the War of 1812, he was a corporal in Captain Wilson's Company, Colonel William's Regiment. He also served in the Third Regiment (Tyler's) Vermont Militia. He was
involved in the battle of Plattsburg in 1814. September 6,1815, James purchased land in Huntington VT for $275 from Henry and Silas
Hodges of Clarendon, and George F. Hodges of Rutland. January 4, 1859, James applied for bounty land. He was a resident of Ellenburg, NY at the time.


Leonard and Louisa were married in Starksboro, Vermont on April 28, 1844. Their marriage was blessed with seven children, the last three being triplets born on May 24,1861. Triplets being born in the 1800's were a rare occurrence, and the fact that they survived even
more rare. Leonard wrote a letter to Simon Cameron, Secretary of War under Abraham Lincoln, and asked for suggestions for naming the children. He wrote back and suggested the names Abraham Lincoln, Gideon Welles, who was Secretary of the Navy, and Simon Cameron. The
children were named according to this suggestion.

Leonard Haskins (James-2, Jonathan-1) was born on March 16, 1825 in Huntington, VT. Leonard Haskins and Louisa E. Grace were married on April 28, 1844 in Starksboro, Addison, VT. Louisa E. Grace
(daughter of James Grace and Mary Brazier) was born on February 22, 1829 in Fairfield, MA. She died on June 11, 1880.

iii. William Riley Haskins, born on February 22, 1851; married Hattie Spencer?; married Alzina Lilly,
on December 18, 1879; married Bertha Ann Swinyer, on August 8, 1900, Keene, NH; died on April
5, 1922, Coleman, MI.
iv. Hurvey Newell Haskins, born on July 6, 1852, Starksboro, Addison, VT; married Minnie Haskins?;
married Anna Durfrey, on August 27, 1887; died on June 26, 1914, Ripton, VT.
v. Abraham Lincoln (Linc) Haskins, born on May 24, 1861, Starksboro, Addison, VT; married Mary
Lucretia Graves, on December 24, 1884; died on November 1, 1924, Baraboo, Sauk Co. WI.
vi. Gideon Welles Haskins, born on May 24, 1861, Starksboro, VT; married Anna Kate (Kate) Patrick,
on May 9, 1885, Baraboo, Sauk Co. WI; died on February 24, 1919, Baraboo, Sauk Co. WI.
vii. Simon Cameron Haskins, born on May 24, 1861, Starksboro, Addison, VT; married Grace Leua
