Clarice Sugg

Wenatchee

Clarice Sugg, 96, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2005, at Colonial Vista Care Center after a lengthy illness.

She was an only child, born August 15, 1909, at Pine Island, MN to Walter and Nettie Baumgartner. She was raised on a farm and attended school in Pine Island. In 1931, Clarice graduated from Miss Woods Kindergarten School, a Minneapolis college that specialized in early childhood education. Her first teaching position was in Zumbro Falls, MN where she met her husband-to-be, Maurice Sugg. They were married in Pine Island in the midst of the Great Depression and made their home in Rochester, MN where they raised their family.

In the mid-1940s, she resumed her teaching career in Rochester and continued teaching in Wenatchee after their move here in 1956. She taught Pre-school and Kindergarten and was one of Wenatchee's first Head Start teachers, retiring in 1974.

She had been a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1956, and was also a long-time member and former officer of PEO, Chapter CP.

Clarice and Maurice had been married almost 69 years at the time of his death in 2002. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael & Suwattana Sugg, Richmond, VA and James & Nell Sugg, Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Sonia Sugg, Milwaukee, WI, Julia Lankes, Virginia Water, Surrey, UK, David Sugg, Forest Lake, MN and Mitchell & Matthew Sugg, Richmond, VA; and five great-grandchildren. She was gentle and kind, loved nature and was a fantastic cook. A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and teacher, she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

The family extends special thanks to niece Pat Hellner and the staff at Colonial Vista for their loving care and support during her illness.

Commemoration Services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at the Wenatchee First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Kel Groseclose officiating. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may make memorial donations in her name to The Alzheimer's Association or the charity of their choice.
