OLD FRIENDS CIRCLE HELP MR. & MRS. ROOT CELEBRATE
The members of the Old Friends Circle gathered Saturday evening to surprise Mr. & Mrs. H. D. Root, members of the organization, and to help them celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. The surprise had been carefully planned and was very unexpected to Mr. & Mrs. Root, who had passed the day in quietness. The guests who numbered 35 gathered at the home of Mrs. Gilmore at the Corner of Oberlin Ave and Franklin St. shortly after 6 o'clock and went in a body to the Root home at the corner of Brownell street and Erie Ave.
The organization is composed of people who were schoolmates and friends in early days. The evening was spent talking over old times and having a general good time. Miss Celia Bowen gve some very pretty ?? o the piano and little Charlotte Goodel recited an appropriate poem. During the evening, Rev. P. B. Stroup, of the Bank Street M. E. church presented the bride and groom with tokens of the esteem and fellowship of the Old Friends Circle. Mr. & Mrs Root were each forced to respond to this speech of presentation. A fine lunch was served late in the evening. The event was one to be remembered long by the friends who were present. The gthering represented the oldest, longest, established families in the city. Mr. & Mrs. C. C. Reid of Cleveland were the guests from out of the city."
