James B. Foster was the son of Benjamin C. and Belinda C. (Barker) Foster.

James married Lydia C. Dicks on October 11, 1859 in Clark Co., Illinois. They were the parents of eleven children, of whom five grew to adulthood: Lizzie, James E., Cora, Benjamin H. and Rolland W.
