Tribute to Grover C. Woodford (Jeffersonian)
Grover C. Woodford was a good man; one who lived an exemplary life, a stalwart citizen in his community. He died Monday and funeral services were held Friday at the Byesville Assembly of God Church where he had been song leader and a member of the Official Board for over 40 years. At the services it was appropriately said that Grover Woodford was a man of great faith and that his influence for good will remain for years to come. This person held no high office, but he was held in high esteem by those who knew him. He was a successful farmer, a man of fine principles and good deeds. Such persons are the salt of the earth.

Grover married Mary Scott June 12, 1915 in the home of Pastor J. W. Bressler, Lutheran Church, Pleasant City, Oh. Grover and Mary moved from Derwent, shortly after they were married, to Mary's homestead, a mile north of Derwent. Mary's Mother passed away and they moved in with her Father and farmed the land for the remainder of his life. They raised two daughters, Wilma (Dyer) & Louise Woodford. Grover and Mary helped establish The Assembly of God Church in Byesville, Ohio where they have been active members since its beginning in 1929.

Grover's father was Aranda Moses Woodford and his Mother was Elizabeth (Lizzy) McWilliams Ogle Woodford Haines. Grover had a brother Charles Woodford and a sister Mary (Wells) Woodford. A sister died at infancy, Amanda Woodford. A half brother from his Mother's marriage to Gilead Ogle, James Ogle. Several half siblings from his father, Aranda Woodford's first marriage to Mercy Wheeler Woodford. Lois, George W., Catherine, Aranda II, Andrew, Eunice, Allen, Eliza, Helen, Isabel, & Eleven.
