Civil War - Sgt., Co. K 7th GA Calvary 1861-1865
Co. K, Hardwick Mounted Rifles
Joseph Longworth McAllister, Bryan Co.

Co K., 7th GA Calvary, based at Fort McAllister, marched from Fort McAllister, in Richmond Hill, to Virginia.

This information is from Irnie Morgan Roberts, granddaughter of Fannin Akin Morgan - July 25, 1999:

"Fannin Adkin Morgan owned 800 acres of what is now Fort Stewart property. Fannin gave each of his four sons 200 acres of the property. The youngest son, a bachlor, owned a part of the land that either bordered or was near what is now Morgan's Bridge. The bridge at that time was a toll bridge and the charge for crossing was 5 cents. Adkin bought the bridge from what we assume to be the original owner and gave it the name "Morgan's Bridge." The government then came along and announced that the land would be used for a military base. The owners had to sell their land to the government at the price named by the government, thus the beginning of Fort Stewart. The land was owned by several families, the Morgans, the Van Brackles, the Haymans, the Casons, to name a few."
