Born June 21, 1945, in Boyle County, he was the son of E. Manuel Abbott of Danville and the late Geneva Lane Abbott. He was a conductor for Norfolk Southern Railroad for more than 33 years, and an Army veteran who received two purple hearts and a bronze star. He was a member of VFW Post 3436, American Legion, AM Vets, Shriners Club and Masonic Lodge. He was honored as Mason of the Year in 2000.
Jerry was a member of First Baptist Church of Danville and attended Faith Baptist Church.
In addition to his father and wife, he is survived by a son, Troy Manuel (Luann) Abbott of Forkland, Ky.; two daughters, Rheanna Abbott (Randy) Emmons of Danville, Ky., and Alana Breeze Abbott of Lexington, Ky.; five grandchildren, Tanner Abbott, Taryn Abbott, Logan Bryan, Seth Bryan and Kaden Emmons; a sister, Ann (David) Hardin of Danville, Ky.; his mother-in-law, Essie Jewell Sherrow and a brother-in-law, Glenn Maddox, both of Junction City, Ky. He was predeceased by a brother, Billy Abbott.
The funeral service will be Monday at Stith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
