Larry Robert Smothers, 65, Lucas, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at his residence.

Born in Marion County Aug. 17, 1943, Smothers was a retired general contractor and former member of the United States Marine Corps.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Robert and Mabel Whitlock Smothers.

Survivors include: his wife, Janet B. Smothers of Lucas; two daughters, Laura Vergara of Louisville and Angela Smothers of Elizabethtown; a son, Robert Smothers of Louisville; two step-sons, Scott and Timothy Filback of Auston; a sister, Vivian Marie Smothers Pike of Louisville; six grandchildren, Griffin and Kelsey Hardwick, Mya and McKenzie Smothers and Jenna and T.J. Filback; two nephews, David and Shane Clark; and great-niece and -nephew, Devon and Dillon Clark.

The funeral service was held Wednesday, May 6, at Bosley Funeral Home, Lebanon, with burial in Lebanon National Military Cemetery. The Marion County Honor Guard provided military honors.
