The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Forney B. Mintz (ASN: 1707533), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 308th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division, A.E.F., near Binarville, France, 28 September 1918. Sergeant Mintz, in command of a platoon, worked his way through the enemy rear guard and captured five machine guns and an ammunition carrying party. Although badly wounded when an organized position of the enemy was encountered, he made his way back to request reinforcements and brought with him two German prisoners, from whom valuable information was obtained.
