Glacier Named for Man
It Holds Entombed.

Announcement of the formal adoption of the name "Jeffers Glacier" for the big glacier on the south side of Mount Olympus, in the Olympic mountains, by the United States geographic board, Washington, D. C., in honor of the late Joseph C. Jeffers, Olympia photographer, whose body is entombed in the great ice mass, has just been received by R. L. Fromme, forest supervisor.

Mr. Jeffers lost his life August 24 this year while obtaining some exceptional close-up photographs of the most rugged mountain and glacier views in the Olympics, making the hazardous trip in company with his son Vibert. In descending a difficult place in the glacier by rope he slipped from the end of the rope and fell over a perpendicular cliff at the very head of the picturesque glacier. Two attempts by well-equipped parties of searchers failed to reach the exact spot where the body was buried owing to a cliff that could not be negotiated from above and an impassable crevasse in the glacier below.

The Oregonian, December 7, 1924, page 74.
