Son of William Franklin Dragoo.
Atchison County Journal, April 20, 1905
"The people of Fairfax and vicinity were startled and grieved last Wednesday by the announcement that Lawson Dragoo died at his home six miles west of this city. Mr. Dragoo had been an invalid for several months but had improved very much and was able to come to town a short time ago. He was taken with typhoid early last fall and was very ill some time. He grew better but never recovered, a complication of complaints having resulted.
His improvement seemed to continue until a short time ago before his death when he was suddenly taken much worse and died Thursday at 10 o'clock P.M.
Lawson Dragoo was born in Brown County, Ohio, February 24, 1838. In 1859 he was married to Miss Ellen Anderson of Brown County, who died in October 1862, leaving two children, who are still living. He enlisted in Co. F 17th Ohio Infantry, October 1861 and served three years and one month. He was in a number of battles and was wounded at Kenesaw Mountain.
He was married again in 1865 to Miss. A. Mitchell. Of this union two daughters were born, Mrs. T. F. McGee of St. Joseph and Mrs. J.R. Freet of Fairfax. He came to Atchison County in 1865 and has resided here ever since. He was engaged in farming during most of this time.
The deceased possesses many noble attributes which drew to him a large circle of friends and admirers. A devoted husband and father, his domestic life was very pleasant. Even when a sufferer he maintained the good humor and even temper which drew to him so many friends and the sorrow because of his death is wide spread and sincere. His wife and one daughter were at his bedside when the dread summons came. The funeral services were held at Pleasant Ridge, Friday morning at 11 o'clock. Rev. Marion Moore of the Methodist Church conducting the services.
The deceased had been a member of the Christian Church for a number of years, but a few weeks since, he joined the Methodist denomination."
