Sculptor. She began her training as a domestic science teacher, then turned to art, studying first at Westminster School of Art, then 1922–5 at the Royal Academy Schools. She was awarded Gold Medal in 1925 and studied in Florence under Libero Andreotti 1926. Changed her name from Eva Dorothy to Julian Phelps 1929. Travelled to Jugoslavia 1933 and met the sculptor Meštroviæ in Zagreb 1936. Served in the A.T.S. 1938–45, becoming a Colonel and first President of the A.T.S. War Office Selection Board. Awarded the O.B.E. Travelled in France to study Romanesque sculpture, and in 1954 went to Serbia and Jugoslavia to study Byzantine frescoes.
