James married Clara Louthan on 3 September 1886 in Douglas Co, Illinois. They were the parents of Bessie, Harold, Nellie, and John.

June 20, 1939 - Storm Lake Register - Complications following an operation caused the death Friday afternoon of J. Park Bair, one of Storm Lake's best known citizens. Mr. Bair had been ill for 30 days. He had been taken to the Sioux Valley hospital at Cherokee where an operation was performed. He was thought to be recovering but Friday, he took a sudden change for the worse and death came unexpectedly.

Mr Bair, a resident of Storm Lake since 1904, has been active in Buena Vista county and Storm Lake civic affairs. He represented Buena Vista county in the Iowa legislature for three terms, from 1927 to 1932. Served in General Assembly. Preceding his service in the General Assembly, Mr Bair had served as county supervisor, both as member and chairman for several years. He had also served on the school board and at the time of his death, he was city councilman from the Second Ward to which place he was elected in March, 1935. He had been a Mason for over 40 years and had served in an official way in the Royal Arch chapter.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 4:30 at Lakeside Presbyterian church where Mr. Bair had long served as elder. Dr. Edward L. Gibson was in charge. Bearers were Hal Richards, Bert Cunningham, Guy Robinson, H.J. Demers, Dr. H.A. Pierce, and Harry Prichard. Masons from Jewel lodge A.F. & AM attended the funeral in body. Interment was in Storm Lake cemetery with the Masons in charge. Ben Hollenbeck conducted the Masonic burial service most impressively.

Surviving Mr Boir are his wife and three children: Bessie of Los Angeles, Nellie, now Mrs. O.F. Inman of Storm Lake, and Paul of Los Angeles. One son, Harold, died at the age of seven.

J Park Bair was born in Blue Ball, Penn., March 17, 1864. When six years of age he moved with his family to Indiana, living there until 1885. He taught in the public schools for two years. In 1885 he went to Illinois where he met Clara Louthan with whom he was united in marriage in 1886. After farming for several years in Illinois, they came to Iowa, locating near Storm Lake.

In 1904 they moved to Storm Lake where they have lived ever since. For many years he bought and sold live stock. As a citizen he was public spirited, always deeply Interested in the welfare of his city county, state, nation, and the world.

During the years he has served with faithfulness and efficiency on the city council, the board of county supervisors, and for three terms as state representative. For several years he was a member of the school board and at the time of his death a member of the city council. For over 40 years he has been a member of the Masonic lodge.

At the age of 18 he publicly confessed his faith in Jesus Christ as a personal Saviour, uniting with the Christian church. At a later date he transferred his membership to the Presbyterian church and for a number of years has served as Elder at the Lakeside Presbyterian church.

Four children came to bless the union of Mr and Mrs. Bair: Bessie of Los Angeles; Harold, who died at 7 years of age; Nellie, now Mrs. CF Inman of Storm Lake; and Paul of Los Angeles. Bessie and Paul were here for nine days during their father's illness. At the time of his death Mr Bair was 75 years, 2 months, and 19 days.

J. PARK BAIR Representative from Buena Vista county, Iowa, was born March 1864, in Perry county, Pennsylvania. When he was one year old he moved with his parents to Gerardston, Berkeley county, West Virginia. When six years old, his parents moved to Bedford, Indiana. He received his education in the county schools and southern Indiana Normal school at Mitchell, Indiana.

When twenty-one years old he went to Arcola, Illinois, where he was married to Clara Belle Louthan. To them were born four children, two girls and two boys. The oldest boy died when seven years old. For sixteen years the family lived on a farm in Arcola, coming to Storm Lake, Iowa, March 1st, 1901, where he purchased a farm of 320 acres and lived on it one year. For the past twenty-seven years he has lived in Storm Lake. For fifteen years he was engaged in buying and shipping live stock. For the past thirteen years he has farmed eighty acres of land, which he owns within and adjoining the city of Storm Lake.

He has served as township trustee, school director sixteen years, city councilman of Storm Lake, and member of the Buena Vista county board of supervisors ten years. A member of the Storm Lake chamber of commerce, the Masonic order, A.F. & A,M., and the Royal Arc Chapter, the Eastern Star, K.P. lodge, M.W.A., R.N.A., and a member and ruling elder in the Presbyterian church. Was elected representative from Buena Vista county 1926 and again in 1928.
