Perry Asberry DeGarmo, son of Samuel Marshall and Mary Jane DeGarmo, was born at Plymouth, Illinois, March 15, 1877, and passed away at Benkelman, Nebraska, on September 10, 1953, at age of 76 years, six months and two days.

Perry's parents moved to Buffalo county, Nebraska, in 1884, and moved from there to north of Stratton, Hitchcock county, in 1886.

On June 3, 1908, he was united in marriage to Florence Lucille Maris. To this union were born two children. During a short time spent in Texas, Ira, the oldest, departed this life while in small childhood. Mr. DeGarmo's wife, Florence, preceded him in death on November 3, 1917.

Mr. DeGarmo made his home in Benkelman for 25 years. Here he was devoted to his son and they were closely associated together. The last two years were spent in the Mayo Nursing Home in Beaver City. His health was always good and remained so until the last six months when a change was noticed. He received a fall on August 1st, and from that time on he showed a marked change.

In the last sickness he was taken to Benkelman hospital where he was given no hope to live. He passed away at 3:00 a.m. September the 10th.

Four sisters—Martha, Minnie, Anna and Pheobie, also preceded him in death. He leaves surviving him the son, Boyd Marshall DeGarmo; two sisters, Lulla Ruby of Wauneta; Josephine Lindner of Hermiston, Oregon; and eight brothers, Paul of Trenton, Nebraska; Glen of Haigler; Guy, Ray and Jake of Denver, Colorado; Matthew of Glendale, California; Sam of Freewater, Oregon; and Jesse of Akron, Colorado.

Funeral services were held at the Laughlin Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, being in charge of Rev. Keith Thompson and Rev. Kenneth McVey. Singers were Mr. and Mrs. Keith Thompson with JoAnne Rath as organist. Pallbearers were Jim Harrison and Charles, Frank, Floyd, Jim and Leander Maris. Internment was in the Eden cemetery. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Laughlin Funeral Home.
