George Evan Fair, 87, who during his 19 years as instructor of rules for the Reading Company, Administered examinations to more than 100,000 train men , and 2,000 telegraph operators, died yesterday afternoon at his home, 1932 Woodvale Ave. Mt. Penn.

In interpreting rules to the railroad employees, Mr. Fair had one specific thought with which he concluded each examination-"Don't go to sleep on duty; it is very dangerous.

Mr. Fair was retired from service in 1919 after completing 48 years with the company. He started his railroad career on October 31, 1870 as a brakeman in the Reading yards.

Later he was employed on the Lebanon Valley and East Penn branches and after that was promoted to the position of freight conductor.

In 1880 he was made extra train dispatcher and in 1881 was appointed to a regular position. He held that post until 1900, when he was named instructor of rules. He was familiar with every branch of the train service. He was gifted with a retentive memory and there was not a rule that he had not memorized.

Mr. Fair achieved the unusual record of not missing a presidential election in 55 years. He cast his first vote for General U. S. Grant, a presidential candidate in 1865.

Upon Mr. Fair's retirement he was placed on pension. He was feted at a banquet on the occasion and was presented with five Liberty Loan Bonds as a gift of appreciation. Officials of the railway system attended the testimonial.

Born in Oley, he was the son of Reuben and Harriet (Feather) Fair. His wife Hannah (Bowman) and three children preceded him in death. He was the last of his immediate family. A niece Harriet F. Hahn and a grandson G. Russell Steininger, Chicago, IL are the only survivors.

Mr. Fair was a member of the Mt. Penn Council 495, Royal Arcanum , Reading Company Y.M.C.A. and P. & R. Relief Association.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p. m. at the F. F. Seidel Inc., funeral chapel with the Rev. Wm B. Smith officiating. Internment will be made in Charles Evans Cemetery.
