Robert became heir apparent of Dysart, Queen's Co, when his elder brother Thomas died, 7 Apr 1578; he was granted livery of his late father's estates, 3 Sep 1586, which suggests that he was born in or shortly before Aug 1565; he briefly lost Dysart in the wars of 1598-99; visited London, 1600, to plead for relief of his losses, at Court; created Knight, at Loughrea, 1609, for his assitance in transplanting the O'MOREs out of the territory.
Robert married 1stly, ca 1589-90, Ann ST LEGER, a grand-daughter of Sir Anthony ST LEGER, Lord Deputy of Ireland, by Agnes WARHAM; Ann died in Sep 1599.
Sir Robert was evidently living at Dysart on or just before 9 April 1642; he may have died before Easter that year (21 Apr), when his son John turned Rev Jonathan HOYLE out of Dysart (Sir Robert had "welcomed" him in at the start of the Rebellion, Nov 1641); Sir Robert was almost certainly dead before the First Cessation of Arms was signed in Sep 1643, when it was his son John who was temporarily put out of possession of Dysart by the Earl of Castlehaven.
Sir Robert's will, dated Mar 1641[-42?], was proved in 1644.
Robert married 2ndly, ca 1602, Thomasine PEYTON, widow of Captain Peter CASTILLION (1569-1600), & daughter of Christopher PEYTON, Auditor in Ireland, by Anne PALMER; she was living in 1650.
