Geneva Jo (Garrison) Gunter, age 80, of Oklahoma City went home to Heaven Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 7 o'clock pm after a battle with Lymphoma. She was born September 9, 1928 in Cogar, OK to James William and Elsie Joan (Payton) Garrison. Geneva graduated from East Walnut High School as Valedictorian of her class.

She was united in marriage to the late Clyde Delon Gunter on August 14, 1946 in Sayre, Beckham County, OK. They purchased a farm on Boggy Creek before moving to Oklahoma City in the 1950's. During the late 1950's Geneva attended Oklahoma City University and in 1981 attended Central State University with her daughter Genese. Geneva was a member of Capitol Hill Assembly of God Church in Oklahoma City. She was the Sunday School Teacher to the Four Year Olds, choir member and Missionette Sponsor. She raised miniature horses, enjoyed crocheting, loved gardening, canning, baking and antiquing. Geneva annually entered her antiques, canned goods and baked goods in the Hinton Fair where she won many 1st place ribbons.

Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, James and Joan Garrison; her husband, Clyde Delon Gunter; and two sisters, Dorothy Ann Garrison and Dena Bea Allums.

She is survived by three children, Brent Delon Gunter and wife Patricia of Ft. Worth, TX; Genese Jo Gunter and husband Mark of Bethany, OK; and Garry Clyde Gunter and wife Melanie of Bartlesville, OK. She is survived by five grandchildren, Lindsay Carpenter, Blaine Gunter, Anna Gunter, Jenna Gunter and Evan Gunter, also one great-grandchild, Cecilia Marie Carpenter.

Visitation will be Friday, June 5, 2009 and Saturday June 6, 2009, 9 am to 9 pm at Turner Funeral Home, Hinton, OK and Sunday, June 7, 2009, 12 pm to 9 pm at Mercer Adams Funeral Home, Bethany, OK. The Memorial Service will be Monday, June 8, 2009, 1 o'clock pm at Capitol Hill Assembly of God Church, Oklahoma City, OK. Officiates are Rev. David White and Rev. Mickey Kinsey with Burial at Hinton Cemetery, Hinton, OK under the direction of Turner Funeral Home, Hinton, OK.
