Brother of Harold Snyder Wright who resided in Ansonia, Connecticut.

Robert served as an Electrician's Mate Second Class, U.S.S. La Vallette (DD-448), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in New Haven County, Connecticut prior to the war.

The La Vallette, while guarding the U.S.S. Chicago (CA-29) off Guadalcanal, shot down six Japanese Mitsubishi G4M “Bettys”, but was then struck by a torpedo. 22 crewmen were lost in this attack but the La Vallette survived the attack and the war.

The Chicago, having been struck by two torpedos the day before, however was sunk in this attack by 4 more torpedos.

Robert was "Killed In Action" in this attack.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred in the Guadalcanal Cemetery, Solomon Islands and was later repatriated here on October 10, 1949.

The La Vallette received 10 battle stars for World War II service.
