George "G.C." Choate,54, of Route 5, died Monday, May 1, at 10:00 p.m. in Trigg County Hospital, where he was admitted Monday. He had been in declining health the past five and one-half years.
A native of Trigg County, he was born April 1, 1924, the son of Byron Choate, Sr. and the late Delia Mae Cunningham Choate. He was married to Mary Evelyn Calhoun March 14, 1942, who survives.
He was a member of a Pentecostal Church, a retired deputy sheriff and had served one year as city policeman.
Funeral services were held at Goodwin Funeral Home Wednesday, May 3, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gene McKnight officiating. Song services were by Kelly Pentecostal singers. Burial was in Lawrence Cemetery.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Evelyn Calhoun Choate, father, Byron Choate, Sr. and step-mother Mrs. Ophie Choate of Trigg County; three sons, George, Jerry Wayne, and Wallace. Two daughters, Juanita and Judy. Four brothers, Byron, Jr., Clarence, James Lacy, and Billy Ray. Five sisters, Margie, Louise, Bonnie, Dorothy, and Lucy.
He was preceded in death by a son Vernon Hopson Choate June 18, 1967. Nephews served as pallbearers.
