Gordon L. "Cork" Gardner, 76, Canoe Creek, Williamsburg RR 2, died Wednesday morning at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home after a lengthy illness. He was born in Canoe Creek, son of the late Walter Sr. and Lillian (Snyder) Gardner. He married Wilma D. Lynn Feb. 2, 1955, in Cumberland, Md. She preceded him in death March 16, 2003. Surviving are three sons: Gordon "Bim" of Canoe Creek, Richard at home and Steven of Hollidaysburg; two daughters: Pamela Sipes of Hollidaysburg and Molly Bush of Altoona; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a brother, Murray of Canoe Creek. He was preceded in death by two grandsons: James Whitsel and Zachary Kunsman; two brothers: Walter Jr. "Isaac" and George "Bud"; a sister, Nancy Estep; and a stepsister, Mary Hughes. Mr. Gardner was affiliated with Canoe Creek Brethren in Christ Church. He retired as a carman from Conrail Samual Rea Shop, Hollidaysburg. He served in the Pennsylvania National Guard from 1950-52, the U.S. Navy from 1952-56, and then was a Naval reservist from 1968-92. He was a member of the Bonner-Sollenberger American Legion Post, Williamsburg, and a former member of the Williamsburg Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, with Pastor W. Scott Elkins officiating. Interment with military flag honors will be held at New Canoe Creek Cemetery.
