Lucinda Skidmore Yazel was born at Monroe, Green Co, Wisconsin, March 23, 1848, and died Tuesday morning at 9:15 September 15, 1927, at the age of 79 yrs, 5 mos, and 22 days.
When a child she came to Iowa with her parents residing in Polk Co, in which
county she was married to David Yazel Nov 18, 1866.
Twelve children were born, five of them dying in early childhood and one grown son passing away Oct 6, 1927. Her husband died April 16, 1909
The family lived a number of years in Story county later spending three yrs in
Kossuth county and coming to Mt. Etna in 1896 which has since been the family home.
Mrs. Yazel had not been well for some time but she was able to be about until Monday morning when she was stricken with paralysis and lingered three days. So quietly did she go that those at ther bedside were scarcely aware of her passing. She was a loving wife and a fond mother bending all her energies to welfare and comfort of her loved ones. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Mt. Etna having united with the church Nov 16, 1924.
She is survived by six children. There are: Isaac of Missouri, Alonzo and
Richard of Mt. Etna, Iowa, Jay of Winford, South Dakota, Roy of Greenfield, Iowa and Mrs John Mosier of Mt Etna Iowa. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Rachael Boatman of Mt Etna, Mary Underwood of California. One brother Alfred Skidmore. Thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren with many other relatives and a host of devoted friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 at Mt Etna church. Harry K Rogers conducted the services. Interment was made in the First Baptist cemetery.
