Daughter of Samuel Starr and Brittania Easton, Elizabeth Easton Starr was born in Rome, NY. After the death of her father in 1810, her widowed mother married Dr. Erastus Brown. Dr. and Mrs. Brown, Elizabeth, her brother and sister, and her half brother William Tyler Brown, moved to Upper Alton, Illinois Territory, circa 1817. Elizabeth's uncle, lawyer Rufus Easton, was appointed the first postmaster of St. Louis in 1805; Easton was also the founder of Alton. Perhaps it was Easton's influence that brought the Brown-Starr family to Upper Alton.

Elizabeth Starr married George K. McGunnegle on 14 Nov 1828 in St. Louis. The marriage was recorded 15 November 1828 by the Reverend William Potts of the Presbyterian Church of St. Louis. Brittania Brown, Elizabeth's mother, was an early member in 1821 of the Alton, IL, Presbyterian Church (Brink 1882: 295). Known children of Mr. & Mrs. McGunnegle follow: Wilson, Clara, George K., Elizabeth S., Edward T., Charles W, William S. and Frank D.

Mrs. McGunnegle's death notice, copied to right, appeared in the St. Louis Missouri Republican, 31 October 1864, p 2, c 6: On the night of the 27th October, after a protracted and painful illness, which she bore with remarkable fortitude and resignation, Mrs. ELIZABETH S. McGUNNEGLE, wife of George K. McGunnegle, in the fifty-fifth year of her age. (Copy in possession of Jane Denny.)

History of Crawford County, Pennsylvania: Chicago: Warner, Beers & Co., 1885, p.751:

Ino W.Davidson, of the United States Army; the other married Benjamin E. Walker, of St. Louis; others surviving continue to live in St. Louis.
