Spc. Jarrett P. Griemel of La Porte, Texas graduated with honors from La Porte High School where he was a member of the swim team and the surf club. He joined the Army in June 2006 and arrived at Fort Richardson in March 2008 where he was a petroleum supply specialist. For Jarrett, joining the military meant seeing the world and offer some adventure. During a leave in February 2008 he came home and married his girlfriend. Almost one year later he was deployed to Afghanistan for a twelve month tour of duty. He was a natural born risk taker growing up. He and his brother often hiked into the woods to catch snakes and other creatures. As he got older his courage grew to more dangerous adventures such as diving off cliffs and skydiving. He also had a passion for surfing. Jarrett had a great sense of humor and had a warm way of letting those he loved know how much he cared about them just by giving them a hug. He died at age 20 at Forward Operating Base Gardez, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered from a non-combat related incident. In addition to his wife, Candice, he leaves his mother, Trena Dorsett, sister, Brianna, brother, Chase and sister-in-law, Crystal, he is survived by his father, Michael Griemel, his grandmother, Nedra Pruett, aunt, Crystal Fountain and uncle Mark Childs among others.
