Joseph served as a Sergeant on B-29 "The Big Wheel," #42-65283, 99th Bomber Squadron, 9th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Somerset County, New Jersey prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on August 27, 1943 in Newark, New Jersey. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in a machine shop and also as Single, without dependents.

Joseph was injured when his B-29 experienced mechanical trouble en route to Japan and jettisoned their mines. They made it back to Tinian Island, Marianas but crashed on the shore during the war.

Joseph later Died Of Wounds received during the crash. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on February 15, 1949.
