Jack served as a Staff Sergeant on B-26 #40-1474, 408th Bomber Squadron, 22nd Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Chemung County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army prior to the war on January 30, 1940. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a motion picture projectionist and also as Single, without dependents.

B-26 #40-1474 took off on May 25, 1942 with a crew of 8 from Townsville, Australia on a combat mission. After take off they were not seen nor heard from again. They had actually ditched, due to damage to their B-26, in the sea off Rabaul.

Jack became a POW of the Japanese Army after this ditching and was held at the Rabaul POW Camp.

Jack "Died While A POW" from injuries sustained in the ditching during the war.

He was awarded the Prisoner of War Medal and the Purple Heart.

1st Lt. Arthur C. King (above) and 2nd Lt. Harold L. Massie (above) were both executed by the Japanese on October 8, 1942.

Marvin C. Hughes (Pilot) and Eugene D. Wallace became POW's from this B-26 and survived the war. Dale E. Bordner who was from Ross County, Ohio & also from this B-26, evaded capture and returned to duty.
