Indiana Anderson was the daughter of John & Effie (Lawson) Napoleon. She married Augustus Anderson (sometimes called Gustavus) around 1867 and probably in their home county of Amelia. By 1870 the couple and their growing family had moved to Midlothian, VA where Augustus worked in the local coal mines.
Indiana and Gus were the parents of seven children: Mary Virginia, Martha, Maria, twins James & John, and Susan. The couple lost one little baby whose name and gender are unknown.
By 1879 Gus had saved enough to purchase a 3 acre tract of land in Midlothian. In doing so he secured for his wife and children a home for the years ahead, as Gus was taken in death in 1880.
Indiana, being very industrious, worked this land with the help of her eldest son, James. In time her sister, Lucinda Harris, came to live with her until she passed in 1917.
Indiana lived on and worked this small plot for 50 years until her passing in 1929.
