The funeral for Morris J. O'Marah, 64, of 628 Ford St., will begin with a 9:30 a.m. prayer service Thursday at Fox Funeral Home followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Church with the Rev. John M. Demo, assistant pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Foxwood Memorial Park.

Mr. O'Marah died at 3:15 a.m. Monday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Syracuse, where he had been a patient since June 6. He was transferred June 4 from Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, and had been in ill health 13 years.

Mr. O'Marah worked at St. Lawrence State Hospital, now St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center, for a short time and then on the St. Lawrence Seaway construction project. He worked at the former Diamond International paper mill from 1957 to 1962, when he and his wife purchased a dairy farm on River Road. They operated the farm until 1969.

For a brief time, he operated a Jet Gas station on Ford Street and from 1969 to 1978 owned and operated a Shell gas station, O'Marah 's Shell Service, at Morris and Ford streets. He owned and operated a tractor-trailer from 1978 until 1985, when he retired because of illness.

He was a member of Notre Dame parish, American Legion Post 69 and Elks Lodge 772.

Born June 30, 1932, at Ogdensburg, a son of William J. and Melvina Matthews O'Marah , he graduated from St. Mary's Academy and, from 1949 to 1953, served in the Air Force.

He married Mable Jean Erickson on Dec. 20, 1951, in Rapid City, S.D. The couple returned to Ogdensburg in 1954.

Surviving besides his wife are four sons, two daughters, three sisters, 17 grandchildren, a great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Allen "Bub" and William, died previously.
