Dorothy Faye Hall Cannon, 90, passed away on May 30, 2009 in Redmond, Washington.

Dorothy was born in Portage, Utah on July 17, 1918, the youngest of the seven children of George Ephraim and Rosabel Warren Hall.

Four years after graduating from high school at the age of 15 (1934), she married Chester Cannon, a fellow student at Bear River High School, on May 27, 1938 in Salt Lake City. In their early married years, they lived in Ogden and Salt Lake.

In 1945, they moved to California where they lived in San Jose, Modesto (1947), San Diego (1953), and Vista (1985). They were long-time members of the San Diego Third Ward from 1953-1985, and the Vista First Ward from 1985-1997. In California, they raised their family of four daughters.

Wherever she lived, Dorothy made close friends and treasured those relationships her entire life. In 1997, she and Chester returned to Utah to live at Terrace Falls in Salt Lake City. Chester died in 2002 and in 2007 Dorothy moved to Woodinville, Washington to live with one of her daughters.

An avid reader, Dorothy was always surrounded by books. She also enjoyed cooking and passed many of her favorite recipes along to her daughters. Dorothy was a great entertainer, hosting many parties for friends on celebrations and holidays.

She loved the beach and her 52 years of California living. At times in her life, she loved to quilt and to make jeweled ornaments. She loved to go camping with friends when her children were young and later, to travel the world with her husband. She delighted in playing Shanghai with friends and her children and grandchildren.

Her home was filled with beautiful china and items collected from world travels, but what her children and grandchildren will remember most are the books and the many family portraits and photos. Every grandchild was represented in her photo collection, along with many of her great-grandchildren. For many years, Dorothy remembered every grandchild's birthday. Numerous nieces and nephews also stayed close to "Aunt Dorothy".

Dorothy served with faith and devotion in many Church callings. At three different times, she served as Relief Society president. She served as an assistant matron in the Los Angeles Temple (1977-80) and a worker in the San Diego Temple. Her love of the gospel influenced all that she did.

In July of 2008, many of those who loved her came to honor her at a celebration of her 90th birthday in Salt Lake City.

Dorothy will be remembered for her generosity, many kindnesses, sympathetic ear, her devotion to Chester, great faith, modest demeanor, and most of all for her amazing positive and optimistic attitude toward life.

She is survived by her four daughters: Christie Walker (Gerald) of Taipei, Taiwan; Carole Beal (George) of Woodinville, WA; Connie Rich (Richard) of Santa Clarita, CA; and Coleen Ary (Paul) of Simi Valley, CA; 22 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ensign Stake Center at 135 North "A" Street in Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral.
Interment will be in Portage, UT.
