Bertha L. Wilke, 97, resident of Parkers Prairie died at the Knute Nelson memorial Home in Alexandria on February 3, 1994.
Bertha was born on September 1, 1896 in Effington Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota to Claus and Elisa (Voges) Ahlf. She was raised and attended school in Effington Township. She married Edwin Wilke on March 12, 1923 in St. Paul. After her marriage she lived in Parkers Prairie and the shores of Lake Miltona. Bertha was very active in her church and she continued with the truck garden for a time after Edwin's death. Later she did practical nursing from 1954 until 1972. In 1959 she moved to St. Paul where she worked in home care for the elderly. In 1967 Bertha moved to Parkers Prairie where she kept busy doing handwork and sewing, mostly for her family. Bertha entered the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in 1982 where she has lived ever since. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in West Miltona. Bertha was active in the church as a Sunday school teacher, choir member and Charter member of St. Paul's Lutheran Ladies Aid.
Bertha is survived by sons: Bertrin (Darlene) Wilke of Miltona; Edwin (Bud) and wife Andrine of Miltona; sister-in-law Ella Ahlf of St. Paul; brother-in-law Herb Wilke of Parkers Prairie, 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edwin; two brothers: Carl Ahlf and Henry Ahlf; one sister Dora Gagnon; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were February 5, 1994 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, West Miltona with Rev. Russel Nubhut officiating. Interment was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ron Wilke, Joel Wilke, Alan Wilke, Dale Wilke, Vince Wilke and Art Ruckheim. Arrangements were with Markham-Lamere Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie.
