John Worsham was born in 1915 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, the son of Henry Randolph Worsham and Ethel Blair Worsham. He served his country as a member of the Army Air Corps during World War II. He received a law degree from Atlanta Law School and graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va. He continued service to his country as a special agent in the FBI for the next thirty years. Upon retiring from the FBI, he then served as the Chief of Police in New Bern, NC, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the NC Association of Chiefs of Police. He was past president of the New Bern Kiwanis Club and was a 32nd degree mason. He was awarded the Law Enforcement Commendation medal by the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. Mr. Worsham was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in New Bern, NC.
