Charlotte ("Lottie") married her husband George Rae in 1875. Her daughter Edna Bishop had been born 18 Sep 1865 in New York City, and she was adopted by George after the marriage. Later the couple adopted another daughter, Maud, who was born in March, 1895 in Oregon.

By 1908 Lottie had developed serious mental illness. Guardianship protection was filed in Multnomah County Circuit Court in Oct. 1908; in Nov. 1908 Lottie was declared insane. She was treated in various private institutions, but in 1911 she was committed to the Oregon State Hospital in Salem, Or. She died there on 12 January 1914.
