Adolf had three step-brothers: Martin Vinje (#54063370); Anton Vinje (#37945932); Ingvald Hanson (#54063537).

Adolf's birth parents (Iver & Anne) were unable to raise Adolf, so he became a foster son of John Brun & Ingeborg Pettersdatter Eliassen Brun (#54063437). Adolf would tell his son's (Erling & Alf) that he was raised by his "mo bro", meaning mother's brother. John Brun was a half-brother to Adolf's mother, Anne Alexandersdatter.
