Stephen R. "Steve" Bull, 54, of Temple, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Saturday evening, May 30, 2009, at Maine Medical Center, Portland, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Jan. 22, 1955, in Wilmington, Del., a son of Robert Logan and Anne (Spencer) Bull. He graduated from Peddie School in Heightstown, N.J. While in school, his favorite sport was lacrosse, where he played the position of goalie. He continued his education at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania and the University of Maine, Farmington.
Steve was a familiar local man who quickly gained friendships through his humor, his dedication to a strong work ethic, and his personal integrity. He could often be seen in local parades or at the Grandstand in downtown Farmington, playing his tuba with The Old Crow Indian Band. A disc jockey and operations manager for WKTJ Radio Station in Farmington, he was a well-known radio personality and also enjoyed his own private business that catered to weddings, retirement and birthday parties. He was elected as president in 2008 as the office manager of Food Business Association.
He was a well-known Maine author; his book "Dancing with Black Flies" was the number one best-selling book at L.L. Bean and he was proud of the honor of being included in a list of top 10 of Maine authors. Many will recall his weekly columns in the Franklin Journal and Livermore Falls Advertiser called "Shooting The Bull."
On Aug. 21, 1999, he married Leslie Lane in Temple.
Together, their shared creative energies could be seen in their work and gardening. They supported each other in their mutual and separate hobbies.
Steve was a former coach of the Temple Tigers and for many years, served his beloved hometown as town moderator. He was also a notary public. He will be remembered for his quick wit, gentle spirit and compassionate heart.
He is survived by his wife, Leslie, of Temple; his beloved son, Spencer Bull and his wife, Amanda "Mandy," of Temple; his mother, Anne VonSchwerdtner and her husband, Dietrich, of Chamberburg, Pa.; his stepson, Michael Williamson and his wife, Monica, of Little Rock, Ark.; two brothers, Robert A. Bull of Stamford, Conn., and Fred Bull of Chambersburg, Pa.; a sister, Laura Jean Bull of Temple; a niece, Allison and two nephews, Tyler and Zachary; and many friends.
He was predeceased by his dad.
Family and friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Road, (Routes 2 and 27), Farmington.
Funeral services will take place at noon Friday at the center.
Private family committal services will be at the Bull Family Cemetery, Temple.
