Mr. Thomas Gardner Crosby, Jr., 76, died Wednesday (June 3, 2009) at Satilla Regional Medical Center following a long illness.

He was a native of Pierce County but had made his home in Waycross since 1969. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas G. Crosby, Sr. and Lizzie Smith Crosby; and a daughter Sheila Diane Crosby. He served in the United States Navy.

He was the CEO of Crosby Pontiac-Cadillac-GMC Truck-Nissan. He served on several Pontiac, Cadillac, and GMC Dealer Councils, former president of Georgia Automobile Association and served as a Director of the Georgia Automobile Dealers Workman Compensation Board. He was nominated for the Time Magazine Quality Award.

He was member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Big Brothers Sunday School Class, and had served on numerous committees of the Church.

He was former president of the Okefenokee Lions Club, Lion of the Year for 79-80, District Governor of District 18B, former president of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse, and received the Melvin P. Jones Award. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 56 F&AM in Bacon County and served on the Peach Bowl Committee. He was a former director of First Federal Savings and Loan, First National Bank, Suntrust Bank, and was a current director of Waycross Bank and Trust. He was former president of the Waycross Development Authority and past member of the YMCA and the Boy Scouts of America. He served on the Waycross College Foundation Board and was a past recipient of the Jack Williams Community Service Award.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl F. Crosby of Waycross; a son, Terry L. Crosby (wife Geneva) of Waycross; two daughters, Debbi Crosby and Denise Setser (husband Bob) both of Waycross; two step daughters, Stephanie Smith (husband Paul) of Waycross, Dee Dunnam (husband Troy) of Douglas; two sisters, Willie Mae Thornton (husband Bernard) of Patterson, Mae Dell Padgett of Waycross; former wife, Laverne (Bootsie) Crosby of Waycross; seven grandchildren, Brian Tyre, Stacy Tyre, Tara Crosby "T.D." Morrison, Thomas G. Crosby, III, Robby Setser, Stephanie English, Casey English; and four great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 12 noon Friday (June 5, 2009) at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at Music Funeral Home Thursday night from 5 until 8. The Big Brothers Sunday School Class and Waycross Bank and Trust Board of Directors are requested to meet at the church Friday at 11:40 a.m. to serve as honorary pallbearers.
