George Miller was born in Marieville, Quebec, December 28, 1832, died July 5, 1909 at his residence on his farm west of Baldwin, aged 76 years, 6 months, and 7 days.George was the youngest of 8 children. He immigrated to Kansas in 1857 and settled in Lecompton. He was married February 22, 1859 to Margaret Lowry. They moved to Palmyra Township in 1860 after their first child was born. To them were born nine children, five of whom are living, three sons and two daughters.Mr. Miller had been failing for a number of years and had been confined to the house for two years. During his last illness he united with the Methodist church. His faith has been a sustaining grace through all his long sickness. He was a member of the I.O.O.F and Masonic Lodges. He was one of the men who stood by the beginnings of things about Baldwin and surrounding territory. He was one of the early settlers and literally helped to build up the town.He had charge of the building of nearly all the older stone buildings in Baldwin and his last public work was the erection of the old gymnasium. His was a quiet life full of good works. For forty-nine years he has lived in this community, as lodge member, citizen, neighbor, he was well loved and respected. No one ever went to him for a favor and was turned away. He was never too busy for a kindly word or thoughtful deed, always cheerful and sunny, even in these last years of pain and suffering. In the passing away of this man we lose one of the frontiersmen of our civilized country.-excerpt of obituary, Baldwin Republican.
