Minnie M. (Bruce) Bonnell was the adopted daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Ann (Sims) Bruce of Macon County, Missouri. The Bruces did not have any childrne of their own. However, they also took a young man named Isaac Lester Rose (born in 1903) to raise in 1907 who was an orphan train rider from New York. The Bruces lived on a farm west of LaPlata, Missouri. Sadly, Jacob Bruce died in 1909, and Elizabeth Ann remained a widow until 1920 when she married widower John Burnham in Macon County, Missouri.

At the age of 19, Minnie married William Carlyle Bonnell in Randolph County, Missouri, on September 30, 1916. By 1920, they were living in Litchfield, Montgomery County, Illinois, where William was a foreman in the Brown Shoe Factory.

They had one known son, William "Billy" Bonnell, born in 1919.

In a 1927 city directory, the Bonnells were living in Hannibal, Marion County, Missouri, and William was an agent for United Shoe Machine Shops. In the 1930 census, they were still living in Hannibal and William was listed as a machinist in a shoe factory.

In 1940, the Bonnells were still living in Hannibal. William was working for a machine company. Also in the home was William's sister-in-law Aileen Ford 32 and her 12 year-old daughter Barbara J. Ford.

In the obituary of Minnie's mother in 1943, it states she died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Carlyle (Minnie) Bonnell in Hannibal, Missouri.
