Death & Burial:
The family story is that Jim Bishop was in Bowlegs in 1928. The family was flooded out during the Great Flood of 1927 in Dunklin Co, MO; so, they drove to Bowlegs for work -- along with about 35,000 other people because of the oil boom there. Jim somehow got himself into a bumble bee's nest and got stung multiple times. The family put him in the car to take him to see a doctor... but he died in the car. It is most likely that he was highly allergic to bees. They buried him in Bowlegs, in a field. The tent city of Bowlegs was an oil boom town in 1927... there was no close undertaker or cemetery at the time, so many people were buried in a field designated for that purpose -- just outside of town. There were no permanent grave markers placed on these graves. (This same story was told by two of his children). Also, there were some of the wife's "Wiseman" relatives living in Oklahoma near Bowlegs.
