Harry A. Slater, 64, Silver Lake, died Tuesday in a Topeka hospital, where he had been a patient since Sept. 2. He had cancer.
He was born Feb. 21, 1905, at Hamlin in Brown County, where he spent his early life. He lived at Sabetha and later spent six years at Reserve. He lived at Hiawatha before he moved to Silver Lake 17 years ago.
Mr. Slater had served in the Army National Guard and was a graduate of Mahler Barber School at Omaha, Neb. He was a licensed Kansas barber and formerly operated shops at Reserve and Hiawatha. He had been employed by Meadow Gold Co. in Topeka the past 17 years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church at Hamlin.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Pansy O. Slater, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Wanda P. Walter, Silver Lake; a son, George E. Slater, Silver Lake; his mother, Mrs. Nettie Slater, Hiawatha; a sister, Mrs. Thelma Meyer, Hiawatha; two brothers, Ernest Slater, Hiawatha, and Melvin Slater, Wenatchee, Wash., and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary. Burial will be in Soldier Cemetery.
