She was a native of Soperton, Ga., and graduated from Excelsior High School as valedictorian of her class.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke AME Church, The Rev. Mattie Riley-Hayes, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at San Sebastian Cemetery. Friends may call at Chase Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

Survivors include her husband, Arbester Slater Sr.; daughters, Paulette Anderson, Deborah (Ronald) Perkins, Joyce (Robert) Jarrell, Jacksonville; son, Arbester Slater Jr.; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and other relatives.
