Funeral services were conducted Friday at Morgan's chapel, New River, for Samuel Jackson Carter, 82, who died at his home in New River. The Rev. R. C Bailey officiated, assisted by the Rev. F.W. Lewis. Burial was in the Hickman cemetery. Mr Carter was born in Patrick county, July 21, 1862, and had been a resident of Pulaski county for the past 65 years. Pallbearers were Frank Stone, Ophus Agee Frank Linkous, Joseph Long, Riner Duncan and Glen Rupe. Flowerbearers were Mrs. J.R. Dudley, Mrs. George Linkous, Mrs. Riner Duncan, Mrs. Zereda Hoback, Mrs. Kathleen Gregory, Mrs. Herbert Smith, Mrs. Duval Wright, Mrs Louise Hubble, Mrs James Nelson, the Misses George Waddell and Hazel Owens. Surviving are his wife, Mrs Damie Shephard Carter; two sons, W.P. Carter, of Roanoke, and A.L. Carter, of Baltimore, two daughters, Mrs. C.W. Bowman and Mrs. J.P. Whittaker, of New River; five sisters, Mrs. Lucy King, of Roanoke; Mrs. Nannie Bays, of Belspring, Mr. Katherine Brown, Dublin, Mr Mattie Rankin, Akron, OH and Mrs. Florence Owens, of Parrott.
