Robert W. McDonald, 93, of Great Bend, died May 24 at Promise Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson.
He was born Oct. 27, 1915, at Concordia, the son of George Edwin and Dorthey Bennett McDonald. He married Alice LeRoy on Aug. 13, 1939, at Great Bend. He was a sergeant in the 379th U.S. Army Air Force, serving during World War II. A resident of Great Bend since 1939, coming from Concordia, he was self employed in the heating and air service business and was a retired auxiliary fireman.
Mr. McDonald was a member of Central Baptist Church, Golden Sheaf No. 226 O.E.S., Elks Lodge No. 1127, Masonic Lodge No. 15, Royal Arch Masons and Lake Barton Golf Club, all of Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; daughter Linda Jean VanderVelde, Emporia; brother Edwin E. McDonald, Pueblo, Colo.; sister-in-law Thelma McDonald, Longmont, Colo.; five granddaughters and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Ruth Atsaides; a brother, Dean E. McDonald; and a sister, Maxine Matson.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Central Baptist Church in Great Bend with Pastor John Grummon officiating. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend.
