Nelson Ambridge was born on November 20, 1886 at Fort Frey, in Palatine Bridge, Montgomery County, New York. He was the 11th and last child of Nelson and Harriett Richards Ambridge. On July 29, 1922 he married Verlie Rose Van Etta, daughter of Alfred George and Brintha Greenman Van Etta. They had seven children over the next 22 years. After his wife died on May 19, 1967, he retired from working and lived a very active and fulfilling life for the next 25 years. He passed away after an illness of several months on September 5, 1992 at the age of 105. He was just 2 months away from reaching his 106th birthday. A great man, a hero, a mentor and a true kind soul.
