A prayer service for James J. Mills, 81, of 1612 Ford St., will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Fox Funeral Home, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral. Interment will be in Foxwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Mills died at 2:10 a.m. Monday at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital, where he had been a patient since May 7.

Surviving are his wife, Philomena; a daughter, three grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

The couple had also raised three nephews and a niece of Mrs. Mills.

A son, James J. Jr., died in 1946.

He was born Dec. 29, 1909, in Ogdensburg, a son of Thomas and Mae Bouchey Mills . He married Philomena Robillard June 21, 1931, at Notre Dame Church.

Mr. Mills was a cook in the Navy during World War II.

In earlier years he worked as a brick mason. From 1933 to 1953, he was employed at The Place, a neighborhood restaurant and bar on Ford Street. Mr. Mills purchased the business in 1953, and had operated it since that time.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Cathedral, and a member of Ogdensburg Elks Lodge 772, the Ogdensburg Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
