Oldest Citizen Dead
Bernhard Henry Bierbaum the oldest citizen of this community died at his home near here on Friday, March 4, 1921. Despite his ripe old age, Mr. Bierbaum, until a few days before his death, had always been strong and active. He regularly took a part in the work about the farm and was a regular attendant at the Evangelical church of which he was a faithful member.
He was born in West Cappeln, Germany on June 8, 1833. He was borough to this country in 1834 by his parents who settled at Femme Osage in St. Charles County.
In 1853 he was married to Miss Lisette Brewe. To his union were born eight children-four sons and four daughters. The family moved to a farm near Marthasville in 1874. Three years later the beloved wife and mother was taken away by death and the bereaved husband was left alone to travel many years or life's journey.
The following are left to mourn his death: five children--Mrs. Louis Foeller, Mrs Herman Eilers, Henry, Mrs. Herman and Frank; 31 grand-children and four great grand-children and a large number of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F.G. Piepenbrok and interment made in the Evangelical cemetery.
