Albert enlisted April 14, 1861 and was a Corporal in Company K, 3rd South Carolina Infantry. The 3rd South Carolina Infantry Regiment was a part of Lafayette McLaws's Division of Lt. Gen. James Longstreet's 1st Army Corps.
Participated in the following battles: Secessionville; First Manassas; Williamsburg; Savage's Station; Malvern Hill; Harpers Ferry; South Mountain; Sharpsburg (Antietam); Second Manassas; Fredericksburg; Chancellorsville; Gettysburg; Chickamauga; Chattanooga; Knoxville; Wilderness; Spotsylvania; Cold Harbor; Petersburg; Port Republic; Cedar Creek; and Bentonville. He was wounded at both Sharpsburg and Gettysburg, and surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina.
