M. H. Allen, a former well-known resident of Cedar township, this county, died at his home in Des Moines on Sunday morning, May 14, 1911, at the age of 81 years and 8 months, after an extended illness. A short service was held at the family home on Tuesday morning, after which the remains were brought to LaGrange, in this county, where funeral services, conducted by Rev. S. A. Soxe, of Osceola, were held at the Presbyterian church in the afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, after which interment took place in the Allen cemetery.

Milton H. Allen was born in Lexington, Kentucky, on Sept. 14, 1829. In 1844 he moved to Davis county, Iowa, thence to this county in 1848, where he resided for fifty years and then went to California in 1898, where he spent a year. He moved from there to Des Moines in 1899, which has since been the family home.

In 1853 he was married to Irene Anderson. To them six children were born, only one of whom, H. H. Allen, of Sheridan, Wyoming, is living. His wife died and he was again married in 1865 to Jennie Vance, who survives him.

They were the parents of seven children, Earl, Charles, John and Arthur, of LaGrange, Will, of Golden Prairie, Wyoming, Mrs. Mary Zimmerman, of San Jose, California and Miss Ursel Allen, of Des Moines.

During his residence here of a half century Mr. Allen won the high regard of all who knew him, and his demise will be mourned by a host of friends, who will extend sincere sympathy to the sorrowing relatives.
