Florence Cline Bowman, affectionately known as "Florrie", died Monday, March 19, 2001 in Midlothian, Va. where she had resided for the last four years. She was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Benjamin F. Cline of New Jersey. She attended Bridgewater College and the Phoenix Art Institute of New York, now known as the New York Art Institute. Upon completion of her art studies she married J. Maurice Bowman of Franklin County, Va. who preceded her in death in 1995 after 59 years of marriage. Mrs. Bowman was instrumental in establishing the art program at Franklin County High School which remains in place to this day.

She is survived by two sons, John M. Bowman and wife, Emmagene of Roanoke and Cordell F. Bowman and wife, Marlene of East Sussex, England. She is also survived by two daughters, Kip Bowman Gruemer and husband, Hans of Richmond and Phyllis Bowman Carpenter and husband, Ron of Chester, Va.; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Acting as pallbearers will be the grandchildren of the deceased, Andrew Bowman, Daniel Bowman, Philip Bowman, Nicholas Bowman, Danielle Carpenter and Emilee Carpenter.

The family will hold visitation on Friday, March 23, 2001 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel in Roanoke, Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2001 at the Antioch Church of the Brethren in Rocky Mount, Va. by the Revs. Melvin and Lisa Fike.
