Graveside services for Raymond Monroe Cox, 84, of Norman were held 6/18/2004 at Lexington Catholic cemetery, with Rev Michael Vaught officiating. Services were under direction of Primrose Funeral Service. Mr Cox died 6/15/2004 in Norman.

He was born 9/21/1919 in Lexington, one of six children of Abner Monroe and Anna Catherine (Ille) Cox. He was reared in Lexington. He enlisted in the Army 10/19/1940 and served for 5 years. During this time, he was sent to the European Campaign, where he was part of the push from Normandy to Berlin and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded 3 Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Ribbon. Mr Cox was a former railroad employee, civil service employee and former mayor of Lexington.

He was married to Billie (Mildred) Gredell.

Survivors include a sister, Pauline Margie Cox of California, 2 sons, David and Monty Cox, 3 step-children, Carolyn Kay Bernard of Santa Rosa, CA., Steve Creveling of Fairfield, CA., and Dave Creveling of Norman, 14 grandchildren & 4 great grandchildren.
